Placenta Encapsulation

Many women seek placenta encapsulation practitioners to assist them in making a remedy for use in the postpartum period. Your baby’s placenta is believed to:

  • contain your own natural hormones
  • replenish depleted iron in the blood
  • increase energy
  • decrease postnatal bleeding
  • increase milk production
  • provide decrease in postpartum depression levels
  • increase CRH, which is a stress-reducing hormone
  • increase release of oxytocin, a hormone that helps the uterus return to its normal size and encourages bonding with your baby

Some practitioners offer different methods to preserve the placenta for consumption.  These may include: dehydrating and encapsulation, the use of traditional Chinese methods, placenta tinctures, or placenta smoothies. It is important to request the method that best suits your needs and wishes. The length of time to complete the process does vary. It can take as little as 1 hour for smoothies, up to 2 days for encapsulation, and up to weeks for tincture preparation.  By far the most commonly requested service is the dehydrating and encapsulation.
