The ancient Greek word 'doula' means 'a woman who serves'.
It is my passion to serve women in helping them deal with overwhelming feelings they may be experiencing, overcoming fears they may have, give continuous support, comfort and encouragement during labour and birth which may be the most vulnerable yet life-giving, memorable experience in a woman's life. It is my desire to help provide the most positive birth experience possible for both the woman and her partner.
Although I have recently completed my training as a doula through Birth Ways International (2016), I have had the experience of having three full term births and one premature birth of my own. Wishing I would have known then what I know now may have made my experiences shorter, less painful and I would have been better informed on the interventions I didn't realize I had a choice about. As a result, I am eager to share and put into practice all that I have learned to help others be well informed for a positive birth experience and to be prepared for the postpartum transition.
